Review #1

Epson is the leader of the pack, the company at the cutting edge of digital photo quality printing. Their STYLUS Photo Inkjet models have made it possible for everyone to print sparkling photographs right at home. With the help of Rob Sheppard, editor of Outdoor Photographer and PCPhoto magazines, amateurs can now enter this brave new world. Two-page spreads with write-ups and pictures from acclaimed expert photographers George Lepp, John Shaw, Greg Gorman, Jack Reznicki, Joyce Tenneson, and others explain how Epson printers and digital photography have enhanced their art and expanded their business. There's advice on deciding which printer is right for you, selecting standard and specialty papers, using image-processing programs to refine photos, adding finishing touches that turn a good print into a great one, and much more. If you've gone digital, you can't do without this!

Review #2
Rob Sheppard has written an enjoyable and really interesting primer on inkjet printing and it's a book you should consider buying the minute you order your first color printer. I've been reading Rob Sheppard's articles in both Outdoor Photographer and PCPhoto magazines for years and I'm happy to see he's put his writing and photographic talents to work on such a worthwhile topic.

Unlike so many books that "kill the thrill" of digital imaging with too much techno talk, this book is actually fun to read and will inspire you to want to make better and more creative prints. Sheppard does a nice job of breaking down the process of creating top-notch prints into manageable and easy-to-understand steps. Choosing the right paper, setting resolution, making "test-strip" prints, adjusting color and tonal range and even finding creative ways to display prints are all nicely covered. A nice section on creating panoramic prints, too.

Also, while the book provides a lot of useful tips and data specific to Epson printers, the book is not overly solicitous and you absolutely won't feel like you're reading an Epson marketing book. Personally, I'm addicted to inkjet printing and I'd rather be printing than reading--but I'm learning a lot from reading this book.
